Topless Beach Party Was Be Cancelled

KUALA LUMPUR: A “Topless Beach Party” this Friday has been cancelled following orders from Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Umno Youth said today.

Following complaints from the Federal Territories Umno Youth, the wing claimed that the Federal Territories minister had ordered the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to use “every power at its disposal” to shut down the event.

However, it did not state the rationale for such order, and whether the order has followed proper procedures and laws.

“Immoral parties such as this must be opposed by everybody so that it would not be a trend among the youths, especially Muslims, because it can destroy the faith of the community,” wing deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun said in a statement.

The wing also warned event organisers to not hold any such events in the future to respect the culture and manners of the locals.

The party was scheduled for this Friday at The Pool, an entertainment outlet in the city that professes on its website to hold the “best pool parties in town”.
The poster for the event also cited the dress code as “bikinis/boy shorts (lesser the better)”, but it is unclear if the event will live up to its “topless” billing.

When contacted, a representative of The Pool declined to confirm the event had been cancelled as claimed by Umno Youth and asked for time to check with its management.

Earlier today, Islamist party and Umno rival PAS had also called for a crackdown on the event, claiming that authorities were empowered to intervene in the event.

Last month, Selangor PAS Youth had urged Putrajaya to ban Life in Colour, a live music event originally scheduled for April 19, after six drug-related deaths were reported during the Future Music Festival Asia.

The event was consequently cancelled out of respect for the deaths.
Johor had also banned a pool party previously scheduled for last weekend after backlash from conservative Muslim groups.
